SFTP Guide

Introduction

This guide is for the purpose of setting up an SFTP account for the secure transfer of data between your institution and AEFIS.
We will need the following information from you to complete the setup process.

1. Public Key for Authentication

We would prefer to use a Public/Private Key exchange as the form of authentication to the SFTP server instead of Username and Password. If doing a key exchange is not possible please let us know and we will provide you with a username and password.
Please reach out to your institution’s security team and request they supply AEFIS with an existing public key or generate a new key pair for this purpose and provide us that new public key to apply to your institution’s account on the AEFIS SFTP server.

2. SFTP Client IP Address(es)

Please provide the Public/WAN IP address(es) or Public/WAN IP range or external DNS/FQDN name(s) of the server(s) or workstation(s) that will be connecting to our SFTP server so that we can explicitly allow those connections from your institution’s network to our server.

Port30

AEFIS uses a non-standard port for all SFTP traffic. We kindly ask that your institution’s network team make the necessary accommodations to allow SFTP traffic on TCP port 30 between your designated server(s) or workstation(s) and our server.
If using port 30 is not a possibility please let us know and we can make the proper arrangements to

Please send all of the above information to [email protected]. If you do not feel that sending this information via email is suitable please inform us how you would like to transfer the information and we will be glad to accommodate you.

Once we have received your answers to questions one and two we will setup your account and advise you when your account is ready for testing.

SFTP Folder Structure

In each of your SFTP folder there are three folders.

  1. Archive – This folder contains all the data files that have been successfully processed by the import process.
  2. Error – This folder contains all the data files that the import process found an issue with.
  3. Save – This folder is for us to move items into that should not be processed by the import process.

All files should be uploaded to the root folder of your SFTP account
